Fabric Care Guide

Manteau Noir pieces are chosen for their natural fibres, considered textures and enduring quality. With gentle care, they will soften, settle and develop character over time.

Always check the individual care label inside each garment before washing as they vary between brands.

LINEN

Linen is a strong natural fibre that becomes softer and more beautiful with the right care, wear and washing.

Wash gently in cold water with a mild detergent. Avoid bleach, soaking or harsh stain removers. Line dry in the shade to reduce fading and tumble dry to soften the fibres. Heat can cause shrinkage however, our own Violetta par Manteau Noir garments are pre-shrunk, but please look carefully at the care instructions for all other brands as their processes could vary. We cannot guarantee that other brands will not shrink after tumble drying. Linen may be steamed or pressed while slightly damp, or left naturally to relax.

COTTON

Cotton is durable, breathable and easy to care for.

Wash in cold water with only similar colours. Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent. Line dry in the shade to preserve colour and shape. Avoid tumble drying where possible. Steam or iron if desired.

GARMENT-DYED PIECES

Garment-dyed pieces have a lived-in depth of colour and subtle variation. These qualities are part of their inherent appeal and character.

Wash separately in cold water, especially for the first few washes. Avoid soaking, bleach and direct sunlight when drying. Some colour movement or fading over time is natural.

DENIM & INDIGO

Indigo and dark denim may release dye, particularly when new.

Wash inside out in cold water with similar colours. Avoid soaking. Line dry in the shade. Be mindful of pale upholstery, bags and shoes, as colour transfer may occur.

WOOL

Wool should be treated gently to preserve its texture and shape.

Air between wears where possible. Hand wash only if the care label allows, using cold water and a wool detergent. Do not wring or twist. Dry flat in the shade. Some wool garments may require dry cleaning, such as tailored wool coats however, the care instructions will specify this.

CASHMERE

Cashmere is delicate and should be washed sparingly.

Air between wears. Hand wash in cold water with a specialist wool or cashmere detergent, or dry clean if recommended. Gently press out excess water in a towel and dry flat. Store folded, not hung.

SILK

Silk is delicate and should be handled with care.

Dry cleaning is recommended for most silk garments. If the care label allows hand washing, use cold water and a gentle silk detergent. Do not soak, wring or tumble dry. Dry flat or hang in the shade away from direct sunlight.

KNITWEAR

Knitwear should be stored folded to help maintain its shape.

Air between wears and wash only when needed. Use cold water and a gentle wool detergent if hand washing is suitable. Do not hang wet knitwear. Dry flat in the shade.

GENERAL CARE NOTES

Wash less often where possible. Air garments between wears.

Use cold water, mild detergent and gentle cycles.

Avoid bleach, soaking, tumble drying, direct sunlight and dry-cleaning.

Store garments clean and dry and store knitwear in airtight bags during summer to avoid moth damage. Fold knitwear and heavier garments rather than hanging.

Natural fibres may soften, crease, fade or develop gentle irregularities over time. These changes are part of the natural life of the cloth.
